The idea of showcasing work has puzzled me for a while, as my ideal would be embedding exhibitions in a way that is both integrated, yet transformative for the viewer. Traditional forms of gallery offer atmosphere but are often separated from their environments at large, customized spaces to fit the work exhibited. But what if the work fits the space? Building its own atmosphere more closely integrated with its surroundings.
This idea excited me, putting the showcase within the day-to-day but still working to transform a space to add a level of escapism from the mundane monotony of existence. I would rather my work be there for individuals to see than have people going out of their way to view a showcase, for who needs a venue to share a reflection of themself, life should be reflected within itself. And besides don’t photos on artificially lit white walls get boring?
